Muzic

Founded in 1927 in San Floriano del Collio, Friuli Venezia-Giulia, Muzic Winery rose from the challenges of the aftermath of World War I, a difficult period for the Collio region. The great-grandparents of the current generation, recognizing the region’s need for recovery, turned to their winemaking expertise to help restore the quality and reputation of Collio wines.

Starting with modest conditions—operating out of a war-damaged house with a small wine cellar—the Muzic family slowly rebuilt and expanded. Over time, they acquired vineyards, carefully cultivated them, and began introducing significant grape varieties to the region, such as Friulano (formerly known as Tocai) and Malvasia, both of which became celebrated as some of Collio's finest by the 1930s.

World War II posed further challenges, affecting both the region and the winery. However, in 1963, the Muzic family marked a pivotal moment by purchasing the old family house along with adjoining vineyards, ushering in a new chapter for the winery’s future.

Now led by Ivan Muzic, son of Luigi and Jolanda, the family’s commitment to winemaking continues. Ivan, alongside his wife Orieta and their two children, has carried forward the family's dedication to nature and the cultivation of vineyards.

Today, the winery spans 21 hectares, maintaining a deep respect for local traditions. Their vineyards are home to some of the region’s most traditional grape varieties, including well-preserved vines that are over 80 years old, reflecting the family’s lasting dedication and connection to their heritage, a legacy they have proudly carried since 1927.

Collio

Nestled in the northeastern corner of Italy, Collio is a renowned wine region celebrated for its unique microclimate and diverse soils. The rolling hills between Friuli and Slovenia benefit from the cooling Adriatic breezes and the protective influence of the Alps, creating ideal conditions for elegant, mineral-driven wines. The signature Ponca soil, a mix of marl and sandstone, enhances complexity and structure, making Collio a benchmark for expressive white wines like Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, and Sauvignon Blanc.

Friuli Venezia Giulia

Friuli Venezia Giulia's terroir is marked by a diverse and dynamic landscape that stretches from the Alps in the north to the Adriatic Sea in the south, providing a variety of microclimates ideal for viticulture. The region’s soils are equally varied, with marl, clay, limestone, and gravel found in the hilly areas, while alluvial deposits dominate the plains. These soils offer excellent drainage, contributing to the depth and minerality of the wines. The cool alpine influence combined with the warm Mediterranean breezes creates significant diurnal temperature variation, which helps preserve acidity and enhance aromatic complexity in the grapes. This terroir allows Friuli Venezia Giulia to produce a wide range of wines, from crisp, aromatic whites like Friulano and Sauvignon Blanc to structured reds such as Merlot and Refosco, all characterized by freshness, finesse, and a distinct sense of place.
