Ombrasenzombra - Sauvignon Blanc - Colli Piacentini DOC - 2023

Founded by brothers Stefano and Ferruccio Pizzamiglio, La Tosa Winery has its roots in Milan, where the Pizzamiglio family originally pursued medical studies. However, their growing passion for wine led them to shift their focus, ultimately specializing in agriculture and oenology.

Their country estate, located in the picturesque Colli Piacentini region, became the perfect setting for their winemaking venture. In 1985, they launched their first wine at La Tosa, blending their deep respect for local traditions with a modern approach.

La Tosa produces wines that honor the terroir, using local varieties such as Malvasia Aromatica di Candia for whites and a blend of Barbera and Croatina for the signature Gutturnio. In addition to Piacenza's traditional wines, they also craft wines using French varieties, including Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.

A unique aspect of the winery is its wine history museum, established in 2015 within the cellar, showcasing old winemaking and agricultural tools.

La Tosa continues to be a place of historical significance, preserving the region’s traditions while producing exceptional wines that embody the essence of the Colli Piacentini.

Emilia-Romagna’s terroir is incredibly diverse, shaped by a variety of landscapes ranging from the Apennine Mountains in the west to the Po River and the Adriatic coastline in the east. The region’s climate is predominantly continental, with hot summers and cold winters, but it is moderated by its proximity to the sea, particularly along the Adriatic coast. The soils vary significantly, with clay and limestone found in the hills of the central and western parts, and alluvial deposits in the river valleys, contributing to both the richness and the freshness of the wines. The combination of warm daytime temperatures and cool evenings allows for a balance of ripe fruit flavors and acidity. This terroir is ideal for producing a wide range of wines, from light, fresh whites like Trebbiano and Albana, to rich reds such as Sangiovese and Lambrusco, all of which capture the region’s regional identity and its ability to craft wines that are approachable, food-friendly, and full of character.
