Petrignone Sangiovese Romagna Oriolo DOC Riserva - 2018
Sangiovese is one of the most famous varieties of Italy and it is planted all around. It has always been famous for its quality and distinguished character. One of the most exciting areas to grow Sangiovese is the Romagna region where it found the perfect micro-climate, people, and culinary tradition. This wine comes from the Oriolo sub-appellation finding iron-rich and clay soil.
Tre Monti winery started in the 70s with Thea and Sergio Navacchia. Today, David and Vittorio, the children, are looking after the winery's daily tasks. A true Italian family business. Initially, they were seen as revolutionary people because they started lowering the yields in the vineyards in order to be more focused on the quality of the grapes rather than the quantity. Tre Monti is producing wines from local varieties such as Albana and Sangiovese but they are keen on using other varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Classic wines expressing the style of the area are made from these varieties but trying also their macerated wines is a must!
Bright ruby-red. Sour cherry, red plum, violets, vanilla, cloves, and forest floor. The palate has a medium body structure with a long finish characterized by fruity and toasty notes.
The wine goes under maceration for 12 days, the fermentation happens in steel tank and cement vats, followed by malolactic fermentation. Aged for 8 months in used Allier barriques.
