Maèn Vermentino Superiore Riviera Ligure di Ponente DOC - 2018
Vermentino is a very antique grape variety originally coming from Spain but imported to Italy through southern France. Liguria is the first region where Vermentino was planted initially, for afterwards reaching other coastal regions around the peninsula. In 1988 this grape becomes officially part of the DOC Riviera Ligure di Ponente. In this location, the grape finds all the factors to express its best: warmth, sun, wind and proximity to the sea.
Maèn (local name to define the proximity to the sea) is a Superior style of Vermentino, which sees a more complex vinification process and longer maturation. The result deliver an outstanding structured wine with an important overall complexity.
Podere Grecale is a relatively "young" winery, born 13 years ago from the desire of a father and a daughter to go back to their own origins after living a life away from their birthplace. Lino, the father, really wanted to taste the Vermentino that his ancestors use to make. After the first few harvests they realised to have fallen in love with what they were doing. This passion, gave birth to Podere Grecale.
The wine shows a medium deep yellow colour, on the nose aromas of mature stone fruit, with scents of floral notes, fresh herbs, round and creamy. Complex and austere finish on the palate.
Vinification with short fermentation with skins and pulps, in controlled temperature in stainless steel vessels. Maturation on fine lees over a period of 11 months with a small percentage matured in oak barrels before bottling and resting for at least 4 months before sale.
