Integrale is an ancient way to produce Prosecco. At the time, the sealed tanks for fermentation did not exist, and the production of sparkling wine was done with a single fermentation in the bottle called the Ancestral Method. There is no addition of extra yeast and sugar to produce a second fermentation, only the original elements from the grapes. Wines fermented with the Ancestral Method do not get disgorged; therefore, they often present some sediment at the bottom of the bottle. The latter helps preserve the wine and adds complexity during ageing.

Marchiori is a small family business in the stunning hills of Valdobbiadene, part of the UNESCO Heritage. On these steep hills, the vineyards are planted with the original grape varieties used to produce Prosecco: Glera Tonda, Glera Lunga, Perera, Bianchetta, and Verdisio. The wine production follows the tradition of single-variety vinification, then blending and re-fermenting. Each one of them brings its exclusive personality to the final wine.

Star-bright straw yellow with silver variations. Fresh nose with white pear, apple, citrus blossom scent, and white bread tone. The palate is delicate with a dry finish with juicy pear and pink grapefruit. The wines are fermented in the bottle, Ancestral method.

Producer

Marchiori

The Marchiori Winery, a charming family business, underwent a transformative generational shift in 2002. Spearheaded by Sara in commercial affairs, Giuseppe overseeing the vineyards, and Umberto as the winemaker, the winery has rejuvenated and refocused on quality production.

Nestled in Farra di Soligo, part of the UNESCO-protected landscape of Valdobbiadene, the Marchiori family specializes in crafting the prestigious Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG. The area, rich in viticultural history dating back to the Bronze Age, is known for its unique terroir that influences the wines.

The winery spans 12 hectares of vineyards, divided across 16 small plots located on diverse hills. This strategic approach, considering altitude and soil variations, allows the family to cultivate grapes with distinct characteristics. The focus on quality, alongside a commitment to preserving ancient Prosecco varieties, sets Marchiori apart.

Producing about 45,000 bottles annually, the Marchiori family’s hands-on approach ensures meticulous control over every phase of production. This includes over 700 manual hours per hectare yearly, reflecting their dedication to quality and territorial connection.

A standout feature of their wines is the use of five traditional Prosecco varieties—Glera Tonda, Glera Lunga, Perera, Bianchetta, and Verdiso. This unique blend, known as "The 5 Varieties," delivers wines that are both intriguing and deeply connected to the land, moving away from the typical dominance of Glera Tonda in Prosecco.

The Marchiori portfolio includes:
- Rocciamadre: A wine that highlights the importance of soil.
- Prologo: An Extra Dry version of their Prosecco.
- Integrale: A sparkling wine crafted using the ancient ancestral method.
- Rivelazione: Sourced from the rare Rive di Farra di Soligo vineyard, showcasing unique territorial qualities.

The Marchiori Winery combines passion, tradition, and a deep respect for the land to create Prosecco that tells a story of history and place.

Terroir

Valdobbiadene

Valdobbiadene’s terroir is defined by its steep, rolling hills, where vineyards cling to slopes at varying altitudes, creating a unique microclimate for Glera, the grape behind Prosecco. The soils are a mix of ancient marine sediments, clay, and limestone, offering excellent drainage while contributing to the wine’s characteristic minerality and finesse. The climate is mild yet influenced by the nearby Dolomites, which bring cool breezes that help maintain acidity and freshness in the grapes. The combination of steep elevations, well-drained soils, and a temperate climate results in elegant, aromatic Proseccos with vibrant acidity, floral notes, and a distinct sense of place, especially in the finest expressions from the Valdobbiadene Superiore DOCG and the prestigious Cartizze subzone.

Region

Veneto

Veneto’s terroir is incredibly diverse, shaped by its varied landscape that stretches from the Alps in the north to the Adriatic Sea in the east. The northern mountainous areas, including regions like Valpolicella and Soave, benefit from limestone-rich soils and a continental climate with significant day-night temperature variations, which enhance the structure and aromatic complexity of the wines. In the central hills, volcanic and marl-rich soils contribute to the minerality and depth of wines like Amarone and Soave Classico. Further south, the Venetian plains, with their mix of clay, sand, and gravel, provide a fertile environment for high-yielding vineyards, particularly for Prosecco production. The influence of nearby lakes, such as Garda, moderates temperatures and creates a milder climate, ideal for balanced ripening. This combination of alpine freshness, volcanic intensity, and maritime influence makes Veneto one of Italy’s most dynamic and versatile wine regions, producing everything from crisp whites to powerful reds and world-famous sparkling wines.
