 Croatina and not Bonarda, commonly confuse people by the name on the label, is one of the oldest grape varietals in Lombardy and northern Italy. History tells about this grape since the Middle Ages. Croatina has a very perfumed character in its purity, even though it performs excellently together with other varieties, giving a beautiful color and a delicate softness to the blend.

Ca’ di Frara, founded by Giovanni Bellani in 1905, is located in the Oltrepò Pavese DOC's heart. Luca, the actual owner, great-grandnephew of Giovanni who bought few hectares more than 100 years ago, today exposed to the best climatic conditions to make excellent wines. The winery vineyards' are farmed in a natural method, with minimum intervention. Their mission is the respect the territory and the environment. The main grape varietals are Pinot Nero, Croatina, and Barbera for the reds, Riesling, and Pinot Grigio for the whites. In the last few years, the company has undertaken a path that leads towards high-level sustainability with packaging, water reuse, and renewable energy for the winery! 

Description:

The wine shows a lively ruby color with fresh red cherry and redcurrant aromas on the nose. The palate, young and elegant tannins, refreshing residual sweetness with balanced acidity, and prolonged fruity aftertaste.
In vinification, the wine is cold-pressed, with short maceration, following fermentation in controlled temperature in stainless steel vessels. This wine rests for 6 months in the cellars before release.
